about

I started writing and recording this in my apartment in Chicago. At some point I revisited it at my apartment in Los Angeles. When I started I was going through in intense period of alcohol abuse and withdrawal. I was writing a lot about my own relationship with alcohol and listening to the first american football record. I wanted to create a song that imitated the guitar work of Steve Holmes and Mike Kinsella on that record. I think I vastly deviated from that goal and the song ended up getting a more pop feel to it.

This recording sat for a long time and I wondered if it was considered finished. I recorded as much of it as I could on a tascam syncaset 238 which is a great rack mounted cassette recorder that does up to 8 tracks. Since the bandwidth on cassette is so low, it ended up getting very bass heavy. As I was going through alcohol withdrawal I remember having a difficult time playing the parts accurately. Nevertheless I pressed on and left all the mistakes in their glory in tact. At one point I was recording bass and the tambourine fell on the floor.

I'm not sure if it is considered done but I am going to be content with it as it is.

For mastering I dumped it into a teac cassette deck and then bounced it to pc for final touches.

lyrics

I see all for myself
That I'm selfish
Only Think About
What pleasures me
What makes me see three
don't you need me?

And you took a breath
Of the dragon sea
And you thought about
You and me
And you ride the wave
Until it comes crashing down

Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?
Don't you need me?

You could keep it all around
Or you could take it out of bounds
Just don't pass it to me
I've got my own sadness to treat
